Terms of Use

Fiction Writers Playground is a privately owned website created for the open discussion of fiction writing, literature, and the writing life; to host fiction writing contests for its members; and to otherwise provide information, web links, and opportunities of value to fiction writers. While postings to our website represent the individual opinions of Fiction Writers Playground members, this site is monitored by the Fiction Writers Playground staff, which reserves the right to remove any postings that are deemed inappropriate, profane, harassing or defamatory.

To participate in the features of our website, you must agree to the following Terms of Use:

  1. All information that you provide to us for your membership is correct.
  2. You will not use your membership to spam, harrass, or exploit other members in any way.
  3. Vulgar, abusive, racist, and and other inappropriate language will not be tolerated.
  4. No mass posting or flooding of the boards is allowed.
  5. Regarding Copyrighted material, do not copy-and-paste entire articles, stories, or poems onto this website unless you are the author. When referencing copyrighted work, post a short excerpt (not exceeding 4 paragraphs, or ten lines of a poem) attributing the author and publisher including a link back to the original where possible.
  6. Use caution when deciding to post personal information. All forum posts are considered public information.
  7. Postings -- including mentions of specific web sites, products, services, etc. -- represent the individual opinions of Fiction Writers Playground members, who are solely responsible for the content they post. Fiction Writers Playground and Patriot Productions, Inc. maintain no obligation for comments posted by participants. Once an item is posted, it is considered published and public information. We will delete anything we consider to be an advertisement or which links to a site which violates Rule 4.
  8. Any messages or information you post to the Fiction Writers Playground Discussion Forum becomes the sole property of the site operator and may or may not be displayed, at the sole discretion of the site operator. The exception to this rule involves the posting of a complete story by a member when that member is the author of that story. In that case all literary rights to the story remain the member’s, but Fiction Writers Playground reserves the right to display or not display the story.
  9. You may not post information invasive of another's personal privacy rights, harassment, libelous, or information of a confidential or otherwise protected nature.
  10. The Fiction Writers Playground Forum is provided as a public service and your usage of this service may be terminated at any time by the site operator without prior notice. Information submitted to the system should not be considered confidential or private and may be revealed as part of normal system operations. No warranty of service is implied.
  11. All contest entries must be written and submitted in accordance with all rules detailed on the contest page. Any submissions which do not comply with published rules will be eliminated from consideration for that contest.
  12. Fiction Writers Playground has no obligation to respond to any writer submitting an entry to a contest beyond acknowledgement of receipt of an entry, disqualification of an entry, notifying winners of the contest, and awarding prizes.
  13. Fiction Writers Playground reserves the right to reproduce material from the Discussion Forum (excepting full stories written and posted by members) for promotional purposes.
  14. When commenting on a story posted by another member in the forum seeking comments and critiques, you must follow the below listed guidelines:
    • Keep all posts and/or critiques to 2,500 words or fewer
    • Please be polite. Feedback should focus on the work. Personal attacks won't be tolerated. This is a writing forum, critique the writing.
    • Hot-topic items such as politics, sex, and religion, may be discussed in relation to the writing, but may not be used for purposes of attacking the writer or other members.
    • All forum guidelines apply to critique posts.
    • Fiction Writers Playground staff members will not read or comment on any manuscripts posted in the Forum.
    • Our code of honor here is that if you're asking for critiques of your work, you're also taking the time to give critiques. Please be generous with your time and talents.
    • Please make your post as clean and readable as possible before posting. Use spell check and avoid using colors and unusual fonts.
